The Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry  (BIMP) is a unique resource for understanding the past, present, and future of puppets and material performance. As part of the University of Connecticut's School of Fine Arts, it complements UConn's Puppet Arts Program in building and disseminating knowledge about our field. The Ballard Institute presents exhibitions, performances, workshops, forums, and online resources about puppetry around the world; its collection of over 3,000 puppets and its archival resources offer further insights into puppet history.

The Puppet Arts Complex, located on the Depot Campus, which is a satellite university location 2.5 miles from the main campus that houses various university services. The Puppet Arts division and the Dramatic Arts' Props facilities occupy a 1.5 million dollar renovated space. The complex includes a high-tech classroom, kitchen, puppet arts library, media room, large rehearsal room with resilient floor and newly installed lighting system. There is also a plaster casting room, dye-vat room with washer and dryer, puppetry wood shop and a large studio with individual work spaces for each Puppet Arts undergraduate and graduate student.
