John Parmelee

Associate Techincal Director

After earning his MFA at the University of Connecticut, John enjoyed his early career as technical director for the Theatre Department at Villanova University and, later, for the Producing Guild in East Hartford. Since returning to UConn’s Department of Dramatic Arts, he has worked with students on building scenery in the shop and onstage, emphasizing in his teaching not just how to build but to understand the choices they make in scenery construction. He says, “I am thrilled when I see the expression on their faces when they Get It.” John has been the technical director of many CRT productions and for Nutmeg Summer Theatre. He has also served as an advisor for the many technical direction students he has worked with throughout his career.
