UConn Cookie Information

Web cookies (also called HTTP cookies, browser cookies, or simply cookies) are small pieces of data that websites store on your device (computer, phone, etc.) through your web browser. They are used to remember information about you and your interactions with the site.

Purpose of Cookies:

  1. Session Management:

    • Keeping you logged in

    • Remembering items in a shopping cart

    • Saving language or theme preferences

  2. Personalization:

    • Tailoring content or ads based on your previous activity

  3. Tracking & Analytics:

    • Monitoring browsing behavior for analytics or marketing purposes

Types of Cookies:

  1. Session Cookies:

    • Temporary; deleted when you close your browser

    • Used for things like keeping you logged in during a single session

  2. Persistent Cookies:

    • Commonly used for tracking across multiple sites

Authentication cookies are a special type of web cookie used to identify and verify a user after they log in to a website or web application.

What They Do:

Once you log in to a site, the server creates an authentication cookie and sends it to your browser. This cookie:

  • Proves to the website that you're logged in

  • Prevents you from having to log in again on every page you visit

  • Can persist across sessions if you select "Remember me"

What's Inside an Authentication Cookie?

Typically, it contains:

  • A unique session ID (not your actual password)

  • Optional metadata (e.g., expiration time, security flags)

Analytics cookies are cookies used to collect data about how visitors interact with a website. Their primary purpose is to help website owners understand and improve user experience by analyzing things like:

  • How users navigate the site

  • Which pages are most/least visited

  • How long users stay on each page

  • What device, browser, or location the user is from

What They Track:

Some examples of data analytics cookies may collect:

  • Page views and time spent on pages

  • Click paths (how users move from page to page)

  • Bounce rate (users who leave without interacting)

  • User demographics (location, language, device)

  • Referring websites (how users arrived at the site)

Here’s how you can disable cookies in common browsers:

1. Google Chrome

  • Open Chrome and click the three vertical dots in the top-right corner.

  • Go to Settings > Privacy and security > Cookies and other site data.

  • Choose your preferred option:

    • Block all cookies (not recommended, can break most websites).

    • Block third-party cookies (can block ads and tracking cookies).

2. Mozilla Firefox

  • Open Firefox and click the three horizontal lines in the top-right corner.

  • Go to Settings > Privacy & Security.

  • Under the Enhanced Tracking Protection section, choose Strict to block most cookies or Custom to manually choose which cookies to block.

  • Go to Preferences > Privacy.

  • Check Block all cookies to stop all cookies, or select options to block third-party cookies.

4. Microsoft Edge

  • Go to Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Cookies and site permissions.

  • Select your cookie settings from there, including blocking all cookies or blocking third-party cookies.

5. On Mobile (iOS/Android)

  • For Safari on iOS: Go to Settings > Safari > Privacy & Security > Block All Cookies.

  • For Chrome on Android: Open the app, tap the three dots, go to Settings > Privacy and security > Cookies.

Be Aware:

Disabling cookies can make your online experience more difficult. Some websites may not load properly, or you may be logged out frequently. Also, certain features may not work as expected.

The same Afro-Latina female-presenting actor stands in a poised manner under a soft spotlight, dressed in a delicate, Edwardian period outfit. She wears a long blush pink skirt and a cream blouse with ruffles, topped with a tailored coat trimmed in gold and pink. White gloves cover her hands—one gently cradling a glass of orange-colored drink, the other resting at her waist. Her large, wide-brimmed hat is elegant, adorned with lace and blooming flowers in shades of red, cream, and pink. Her curls peek out from beneath it, framing her thoughtful, expressive face. Her lips are softly pouted. A gold beaded vintage purse hangs from her right wrist.
The same Afro-Latina, female-presenting actor wears a deep green cloak with white floral embroidery over a black sleeveless romper. Her hair is pulled back into a sleek bun, and she wears a purple and silver marbled mask covering the upper half of her face. She has a solemn and intense expression as she leans into the arms of a white male actor with short blond hair. He wears a dark coat with gold embroidery over a cream-colored shirt with a high collar and beige vest. His mask, similar in design to the Afro-Latina actor’s, covers his face from forehead to nose. He cradles her in an embrace, one arm wrapped around her chest and the other holding her hand, his head tilted back.
The same female-presenting Afro-Latina actor with curly, shoulder-length hair stands on the right side of the stage. She wears a beige and brown patterned knit vest over a long-sleeved gray shirt, with a dark green scarf tied around her neck. She has a warm, confident smile and looks at the other actor with a friendly expression, her hands resting in front of them.

The actor she is engaging is on the left of the stage, back facing the camera. They are a white, feminine-presenting actor wearing a bright yellow raincoat with a hood, worn over a dark outfit. A large green hat with a wide brim sits on their head. They are engaged in conversation with the smiling actor.

The background is dark with cool blue lighting. A large arched structure frames the actors.
The same Afro-Latina, female-presenting actor with sleek dark hair pulled into a tight bun wears a modest navy-blue dress with a high white lace collar and matching lace cuffs, fitting the period style. She gazes down at a white, male actor lying in a bed. He is sickly, and her expression is filled with deep concern and tenderness. She sits beside him, her left hand gently holding his wrist while her right hand clasps his left.

The background is almost entirely black, making the two characters the focal point. The lighting is soft and warm.
The same Afro-Latina, female-presenting actor is in a dynamic pose, lying forward on a wheeled stool with her arms outstretched. She wears a navy-blue sleeveless romper with a front zipper, dark round goggles, and large blue circular earrings. Her hair is styled in a sleek, low bun. She has a wide, open-mouthed expression of excitement. Behind her, a live band is partially visible, including a pianist and a flautist . The stage lighting casts dramatic shadows, including the silhouette of a singer projected onto a large screen behind them.
An Afro-Latina, female-presenting actor has long, curly dark hair tied back with a teal ribbon. She wears a vintage-style blue-and-white striped dress with puffed sleeves and a white apron with lace detailing. Her expression is focused as she holds a teal glass bottle in both hands, examining it intently. The background is dark, highlighting the actor alone.
